Xbox Is Retiring The Game Pass App
But Its Features Are Moving to the Main Xbox App, this week, Xbox announced significant updates to its mobile apps, which include retiring the Xbox Game Pass app. Instead of disappearing completely, the app's features will be integrated into the existing Xbox app.
This change means users will no longer need multiple Xbox apps on their phones, as they’ll still have access to everything previously available in the Game Pass app. For now, the Game Pass app is still available for download but will be removed in November. Microsoft plans to gradually roll out these features to Xbox beta users first, with wider availability to follow.
According to Microsoft
Key functions such as browsing the Game Pass library and managing memberships will now be centralized in the Xbox app. Game Pass Ultimate members will also continue to access perks through the app and receive updates on new game releases.
In hindsight, the Xbox Game Pass app was somewhat redundant, so this update feels long overdue. Since you couldn’t directly play Game Pass games through the app and needed workarounds to use cloud streaming on your phone, having three Xbox apps seemed unnecessary.
Streamlining this into two apps
Should free up some space on users' devices while adding more functionality to the main Xbox app. The consolidated experience should make navigation smoother assuming everything is well-executed once the changes take effect.
