Is Ori’s Journey Truly Over? Moon Studios Sparks Speculation
Moon Studios, known for Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, has renewed the excitement within fans by a possible third title in the franchise. Although currently busy with the new title No Rest for the Wicked, creative director Thomas Mahler still had time on Discord to comment on the prospects of continuing the story of Ori.
But where could the Ori series go next?
Could There Be a Third Ori Game?
During a chat with fans, Mahler mentioned a recent call with Microsoft, fueling speculation about the franchise’s future. Though his comments remained vague, one phrase stood out: “continue Ori’s story.”
Given the emotional conclusion of Ori and the Will of the Wisps, a direct sequel would be challenging. However, the developer could explore:
- The World of Niwen Reborn: A chance to see the results of Ori’s sacrifice and how the land has evolved.
- The Risk of Expanding Ori’s Story
Both Ori games received overwhelming praise for their emotional depth, stunning visuals, and fluid gameplay. The challenge of creating a third entry lies in maintaining Ori’s legacy without diminishing its impact.
What’s Next for Moon Studios?
For the moment, Moon Studios is fully committed to polishing No Rest for the Wicked, still in early access on PC. Mahler confirmed that this is the project they are focusing on most, which would subsequently make any potential Ori sequel happen only after Wicked's full release.
No official confirmation has been made, but the Ori community remains hopeful that the spirit guardian's story is far from over.
