Mortal Kombat 1 to End DLC Releases After Kombat Pack 2 Completion
A trusted Mortal Kombat 1 insider has revealed that the game won’t receive more DLC after the release of Kombat Pack 2. Before MK1 launched, NetherRealm Studios had promised long-term support for the game, leading fans to expect multiple story expansions and Kombat Packs over the years. However, reports suggest that the studio has changed its plans due to the performance of the recent Khaos Reigns expansion.
NetherRealm Cancels Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Plans Beyond Kombat Pack 2
Insider Fate Unknown, known for accurate Mortal Kombat 1 leaks, has claimed that NetherRealm Studios has canceled plans for a third Kombat Pack and a second story expansion. After Kombat Pack 2 concludes in early 2025 with the release of the T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian, MK1 is expected to end its paid content updates. However, future Kameo fighters may still be released, but all other DLC plans appear to have been scrapped.
NetherRealm Cancels Kombat Pack 3 and Story Expansion
According to the insider in a Reddit thread, NetherRealm Studios had plans for Kombat Pack 3 and a second story expansion for Mortal Kombat 1, but both have recently been canceled. The insider stated, "No more characters after Kombat Pack 2." While there might still be a Kameo fighter or two added later due to prior development, their release remains uncertain.
Poor Sales of Khaos Reigns Expansion Lead to Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Cancellation
The decision to cancel future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC reportedly stems from poor sales of the Khaos Reigns expansion. Released in September, the expansion faced criticism from fans for its high price, starting at $49.99. While it included Kombat Pack 2 and six additional fighters, many players considered the content overpriced, especially since Mortal Kombat 1 had launched only a year earlier.
Early Signs of Underperformance for Khaos Reigns
The Khaos Reigns DLC for Mortal Kombat 1 showed signs of underperforming as early as November when NetherRealm and WB Games applied a significant price cut. This sale, which occurred just over a month after the expansion's release, raised concerns about its sales performance. Recent reports now confirm that the quick discount was likely a response to low demand.
