The latest entry in the WWE 2K series, WWE 2K25

Is shaping up to become a phenomenal hit. With early access starting from March 7 and a full release on March 14, fans have been eagerly awaiting the reviews to gauge whether the game is delivering what it has promised. Now that the early reviews are starting to pour in, WWE 2K25 has achieved a Metacritic score of 85/100 so far; it has equaled the legendary WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain, released back in 2003, a score that ranks among the greatest in wrestling games over two decades.

Metacritic Score: 85/100

  • Best since: WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain (85/100 in 2003)
  • Reviewed Platforms: Xbox Series X (most reviews so far), PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and PC
  • The highlights of reviews: immense game mode improvements
  • Bloodline inclusion with Roman Reigns on the cover; Community
  • Creations add replayability smooth and refined gameplay, though not a major overhaul.

The most insidious fault has come in the form of Island Mode, a mode owing itself to purchase-based mechanics, clearly shunned by many. Island Mode does mar the overall experiences with pay-to-win mechanisms; however, there is still plenty more of a game behind it.

WWE 2K25 has received slightly better reviews

Compared to WWE 2K24 and WWE 2K23, this is a good sign for fans excited for the series to get back to where it used to belong.

This is what's new in WWE 2K25:

  • Refined gameplay mechanics for smoother wrestling action
  • Expanded game modes with online and offline options
  • The Bloodline-themed edition built around Roman Reigns and legendary WWE superstars
  • Community Creations for endless customization

It is available for Standard ($59.99), Deluxe, and Special Editions, with the Bloodline and Deadman Editions providing extra content and early access.

The improved Metacritic scores place WWE 2K25 among the finest wrestling video games of the past two decades. Though it doesn't overhaul the concept to any extent, it does polish and refine the whole experience and offers the fans a good immersive WWE game. Will it last the test of time like Here Comes the Pain? Only time will tell, but WWE 2K25's start certainly looks fantastic.
