Fable Creator Peter Molyneux Shares His Thoughts on Fable 4

Peter Molyneux, the legendary creator of the original Fable series, has finally weighed in on the upcoming reboot of the RPG franchise by Xbox. Molyneux, who was behind the development of Fable, Fable II, and Fable III, left Lionhead Studios before it was shut down in 2016 and went on to establish his own studio, 22cans, where he has focused mainly on mobile games. Recently, as Molyneux announced his latest game, Masters of Albion, he also offered his initial thoughts on the fourth main installment in the Fable series.

Molyneux expressed excitement about seeing what Playground Games, the studio now developing Fable, will bring to the franchise. He praised the studio and noted that the trailers released so far look impressive. However, Molyneux is particularly eager to see how the gameplay of the new Fable will turn out, as this aspect hasn't been fully revealed in the current trailers.

"I'm really interested in seeing what Playground does with Fable,"

Molyneux remarked.

"I'm absolutely thrilled that the series is continuing to thrive. It's a great feeling to have been part of creating something that is now being developed by such a talented team like Playground. I hope they make it their own version of Fable. The humor seems intact, and the trailers I've seen are stunning. But I'm most curious about how the game will play and feel compared to what Lionhead might have done. That was an incredibly diplomatic answer, wasn't it?"

Although Molyneux is best known for his work on the main Fable titles, his last project at Lionhead was Fable: The Journey, which focused on Microsoft's Kinect. After Molyneux's departure, Lionhead worked on Fable Legends, which was eventually canceled when the studio closed.

As a result, nearly 12 years have passed since the last Fable game was released. Seeing Molyneux's approval of Playground's work is reassuring and adds confidence for those eagerly anticipating the game.

Currently, no official release date has been announced for Fable, but it is expected to launch in 2025. When it does, it will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and will also be part of Xbox Game Pass.
