1. Pause the game and build essential structures: As soon as the game loads, pause it and build the following: Camp, Store, Granary, Well, Marketplace (optional), and Woodcutter's Lodge. Ensure the Logging Camp is near a forest.
2. Construct roads: Build roads to connect all initial structures while the game is paused. Roads are free and instant.
3. Assign family tasks: Resume the game and assign families to Logging Camp, Storehouse, and Granary. Leave one family for construction tasks.
4. Start food production: Build either a Forager Hut or Hunting Camp, depending on available resources. Assign a family to work there.
5. Build Burgage Plots: Construct at least three Burgage Plots with Living Space Extensions to house your families.
6. Get another Ox: Order a second Ox for more efficient timber transportation. Build an additional Hitching Post for it.
7. End homelessness: Expand Living Space in Burgage Plots to house all families, eliminating temporary tents.
8. Expand roads and plots: Build more roads and Burgage Plots to prepare for settlement upgrades.
9. First upgrade: Once you reach five Burgage Plots, upgrade to Small Village and spend your Development Point on Trade Logistics.
10. Assign new families: As new families arrive, assign them to additional food production, sawpit for plank production, and Woodcutter's Lodge for firewood.
11. Build a Trading Post: Set up a Trading Post near the map's edge to trade surplus resources for Regional Wealth.
12. Construct your first manor and church: Build your first manor on a hill, add small fields, and construct a church nearby for community approval.
13. Watch your firewood: As winter approaches, ensure you have a good stockpile of firewood by hiring a family to work at the Woodcutter's Lodge. Firewood usage doubles in winter.
14. Build more Burgage Plots: Construct more Burgage Plots to advance to the next settlement level. Reserve some backyard extension spaces for future resource production.
15. Prepare for large constructions: Designate areas for important structures like the Church and Tavern. Ensure the Church is near Burgage Plots.
16. Place Chicken Coops: Build Chicken Coops for a passive supply of eggs, which diversify food options and reduce sickness.
17. Build the Church: Use 20 Planks, 5 Timber, and 10 Stone to construct your first church, improving community approval.
18. Increase storage capacity: Build a large storehouse to prevent storage issues and increase capacity from 250 to 2,500 items.
19. Upgrade Burgage Plots: Upgrade at least two Burgage Plots to Level 2 to reach the Medium Village milestone.
20. Unlock Better Deals: Use your additional Development Point to unlock Better Deals, reducing import costs at the Trading Post.
21. Gather stones for your manor: Build a Stonecutter Camp to gather stones for constructing your manor, which allows you to tax your populace and employ Retinue.
22. Make shoes: Build a Cobbler's Workshop to produce shoes from leather for Level 2 citizens, which is essential for upgrading to Level 3 Burgage Plots.
23. Survive winter: Ensure your people have enough firewood, food, and clothing to make it through winter without issues.
Follow these steps to establish a thriving settlement and make it through your first year in Manor Lords.
