Trailer Reveals New Battle System Details

Nintendo has given fans a fresh look at Mario & Luigi: Brothership, an upcoming RPG set to release on Switch later this year. The new trailer, which focuses on the game's battle system, showcases a mix of classic turn-based mechanics and platforming elements. As expected, Bros. Attacks play a central role, allowing Mario and Luigi to team up for powerful combo moves. While the trailer is brief, it gives a glimpse of the game's vibrant graphics and introduces new players to how the battles function.

In the trailer, Mario and Luigi can be seen using their signature jump and hammer attacks against enemies, a long-standing feature of the series. Players will need to strategize depending on the enemy type using a jump on a spiked enemy, for instance, could result in damage to the brothers, requiring the use of a hammer instead. Timing is also crucial; in one clip, Mario's hammer attack is mistimed, leading to the hammer breaking off and hitting Luigi instead of the enemy.

The Mario & Luigi series began on the Game Boy Advance and later became a staple on the DS and 3DS. Brothership marks the series’ debut on the Switch and takes full advantage of the console’s enhanced graphics capabilities. While the visual style stays true to earlier games like Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story, the overall presentation has seen significant improvement. The character animations, in particular, shine, with Mario and Luigi displaying slapstick reactions throughout the trailer.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership is set to release on November 7th. With The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launching next week, Nintendo is likely to shift more focus to Brothership through additional trailers, press releases, and potential preorder bonuses. There's still a lot to learn about the game, but it seems the excitement is just beginning.
