The Game Awards 2024: Nominations to Be Revealed Soon
The Game Awards, initiated by gaming journalist Geoff Keighley, are set to announce their 2024 nominations soon. This marks the 10th year of the show, which began in 2014 after breaking away from the VGX and Spike Video Game Awards. The main event will take place at the Peacock Theater on December 12, while the nominations will be revealed on November 18 at 9 am PT. This announcement will be streamed live on The Game Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels.
Last year’s awards saw Baldur’s Gate III dominate, winning six categories, including Game of the Year and Best Performance (Neil Newbon as Astarion). It surpassed titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Resident Evil 4.
Some of the key contenders for this year include the popular indie hit Black Myth: Wukong, which made waves on Steam, and the beloved platformer Astro Bot, known for its nostalgic nods to PlayStation history. ATLUS's Metaphor: ReFantazio has also drawn attention as a standout RPG, following the success of Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei V. Other potential nominees for Game of the Year include Silent Hill 2, Helldivers II, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
The Game Awards’ growth over the past decade has brought new categories such as Best Adaptation and showcased highlights like the Game Awards Orchestra. Major game reveals are also a staple, with memorable announcements like Persona 5’s Joker joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the unveiling of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and SEGA's announcement of remakes including Golden Axe.
The Game Awards 2024 will be streamed live on December 12 at 4:30 pm PT. Following the nominations reveal on November 18, public voting will open on the official website.
